Half dayOutside the ski season Bansko is a good base for Pirin and south-west Bulgaria, and even in winter a day off the slopes is worth it. Rila Monastery is about an hour and 45 minutes away, Melnik and Rozhen Monastery about an hour and a half. Closer by is Dobarsko with its church from 1614, and for old villages there are Kovachevitsa and Leshten.
