Many visitors to Sunny Beach do not land in Burgas at all. Flights into Sofia run all year and are often cheaper, and plenty of expats, students and remote workers live in Sofia or Plovdiv and head to the coast for a summer week. The catch is the last part of the journey: buses run on a timetable and stop at the bus station, and the train only goes as far as Burgas. * From Plovdiv the drive is more than 120 km shorter: €180 for a car, €250 for a minivan and €280 for a minibus. Split four ways in a car, that is €45 per person.
From Sofia, or straight from the airport, the car joins the Trakia motorway (A1) and runs east past Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Yambol. Near Burgas it leaves the motorway and follows the coast road north, past Pomorie and Nessebar, into Sunny Beach. From Plovdiv it is the same road, just starting halfway along. There are no mountain passes on this route, so it is an easy drive in any season.

When to allow extra time
Fridays and Saturdays in July and August. Half the country drives to the sea; leaving Sofia and Plovdiv and entering Burgas are the slowest parts.
Sunday afternoons. The return direction towards Sofia and Plovdiv fills up.
Burgas – Nessebar road in high season. The last stretch into the resort can be slow around midday.
Roadworks. Single-lane sections on the Trakia motorway are common. Drivers know where they are.

Landing at Sofia Airport
Give us your flight number when you book. We follow the flight, and if it is delayed your driver waits at the airport at no extra cost, however long the delay. Arrivals at either terminal are fine. After a long flight you sit back for about four hours and arrive at your hotel door, with no bus station and no changing in Burgas. When we pick you up from an address rather than the airport, the driver waits 15 minutes.
Flying into Burgas instead?
If your flight lands at Burgas Airport, the transfer to Sunny Beach is about 40 km and 45 minutes: €40 for a car, €50 for a minivan and €60 for a minibus. The same flight tracking applies.
You can book the return the same way, by phone or chat. The price list has no separate line for trips starting in Sunny Beach, so we will give you the return price on the phone before you confirm. The driver collects you at reception or at the entrance of your complex. With a noon check-out you would be in Sofia, or at Sofia Airport, at around 4:15 pm without breaks.
