Primorsko is a small resort on Bulgaria’s southern Black Sea coast, known for long sandy beaches, dunes and the Ropotamo nature reserve just to the north. Many visitors land in Sofia, and many expats living in Plovdiv or Sofia head there for a summer week. The catch is the distance: more than 400 km from Sofia, about 300 from Plovdiv, few direct buses and a change in Burgas on most connections. Four people sharing a car pay €60 each from Sofia or €50 each from Plovdiv. There is no night surcharge and traffic does not change the price. The route: motorway to Burgas, then the coast road
From both cities most of the trip is on the Trakia motorway (A1). Coming from Sofia, the car passes Pazardzhik and Plovdiv; from Plovdiv it heads straight east past Stara Zagora and Yambol. The motorway ends at Burgas. From there the road turns south along the coast, past the turn-off for Sozopol and through Dyuni, then crosses the Ropotamo river before reaching Primorsko. That last stretch of about 50 km is not motorway and runs past villages and resorts, so it is slower, especially in July and August.

When to allow extra time
Summer Fridays and Saturdays. Half the country drives to the sea. Leaving Sofia or Plovdiv and getting through Burgas are the slowest parts.
Sunday afternoons in July and August. The roads back from the coast to Plovdiv and Sofia fill up.
Roadworks on the motorway. Single-lane sections are common; drivers know where they are and plan the departure time around them.

Flying in: Sofia Airport or Burgas Airport
If you land in Sofia, the driver meets you at the terminal and takes you straight to Primorsko for the same price as from the city. Burgas Airport is much closer: about 50 km and 1 hour, €65 for a car for up to 4, €90 for a minivan and €100 for a minibus.
Give us your flight number when you book. We follow the flight, and if it is delayed your driver waits at the airport at no extra cost, however long the delay. When we pick you up from an address, the driver waits 15 minutes.
A solo traveller with a backpack will pay less on the bus. A transfer makes sense for families and groups of friends, for anyone with suitcases, beach gear or a pushchair, and for travellers who land late and do not want to change buses in Burgas at night. The price is per car, so for three or four people the difference from tickets is small, and you arrive at the door of your accommodation.
