When planning to travel within the EU, it is necessary to comply with several conditions adopted by the European Commission:
The animal must have an implanted chip for identification purposes. Readable tattoos made before July 2011 are also allowed. It must have a passport that proves that it has been vaccinated against rabies and is in a condition to travel. The certificate is issued by a registered veterinarian.
Dogs traveling to Ireland, Malta, Finland, and Norway must be treated for alveococcosis, a type of parasitic worm that can cause dangerous illness in humans.
